“I think I had a preconceived notion that working with a designer was for people like my Great Aunt Toni.When we opened a surf shop in our mid thirties we thought we’d give one a shot because we didn’t understand retail lighting, displays or that shoppers usually move counter clockwise through a store. Who knew?
We had so much fun and were so impressed that we hired Maia again a few years later for our dream home.
Working with Maia on the house was an incredible experience. I felt like our stylistic taste was recognized, then refined, then brought to life in a way we never could have done on our own. Maia wanted to know about homes and 'feels' we liked, how we lived our lives and the type of people we were. She wanted our new home to be in harmony with its surroundings, and that included the people who were going to live in it, us.
It was fantastic to have someone who had knowledge of how much space was needed between a counter and a pantry or that it was possible to fit another bathroom upstairs. Mood boards helped us recognize and refine a better direction and vision for what we liked (there are lots of nice things to buy for a home, not all of them look good together as I’ve learned in the past).
I really enjoyed all of the options she presented for furniture, rugs, hardware and more. Maia gave us choices that worked for both function and aesthetic. Even if I had the talent she does, it would have taken weeks or months of driving to stores to find products she already had experience with and knowledge of.
I really enjoyed the honesty of our relationship as well. There were a couple things/colours I thought I wanted to incorporate that probably wouldn’t have worked and then there were also a couple of bold ideas that she was excited about and gave us the confidence to push forward on.
It seems to be a bit of a formality for guests visiting your home to extend a compliment. Though recently they seem to be of a unique sincerity and followed by questions like what a particular colour is, where we sourced our sunroom chairs, who the person was that brought all this together.”

“We absolutely loved working with Maia to create the taproom/restaurant space at North Brewing. She was involved throughout the process: from the conception of the space, designing a layout, communicating with contractors, to putting together the finished finished space, she was very involved in every step along the way. Throughout the process she was extremely collaborative, and went above and beyond to ensure that the space she created reflected the vision and purpose that we discussed in the design brief. Communication with Maia was a total breeze- she would get back to you via email/phone/text extremely quickly (always under 24 hours). Her responses were always well researched and thoughtful.
